Vevey

Vevey is one of the true "Pearls of the Swiss Riviera," a beautiful town on the northern shore of Lake Geneva. It's defined by its remarkably mild climate and a stunning location with breathtaking views of the Alps. The surrounding vineyards, grand paddlewheel steamers on the lake, and the scenic promenade all contribute to its unique charm.

A Town of Sweet History

Beyond its natural beauty, Vevey holds a special place in history. It's the birthplace of milk chocolate, invented here in 1875 by Daniel Peter. It's also home to the world headquarters of the food giant Nestlé, founded in the town in 1867. You can explore this rich history and more at the Alimentarium Museum, a fascinating and interactive experience dedicated to the world of human nutrition. The nearby Nest, a modern museum focused on Nestlé's history and brands, is also a highly recommended stop. Don't miss the charming Café Henri inside Nest, which serves a popular brunch on weekends (reservations are a must).

Vevey also attracted one of the world's most famous entertainers: Charlie Chaplin. The legendary actor and comedian lived here from 1952 until he died in 1977.

Explore the Vaud Riviera

Vevey is the perfect starting point for exploring the Vaud Riviera. The town's lakeside promenade is a beautiful, flower-filled path lined with palm trees. It's ideal for a leisurely stroll or a bike ride, and it connects you to neighboring towns like Montreux and the famous Château de Chillon.

For wine lovers, the Lavaux vineyards are a must-see. The "Vine Train" (Train des Vignes) travels from Vevey through these UNESCO-listed terraced vineyards to Puidoux-Chexbres, offering spectacular views. You can also follow the "Wine Road", a themed route with opportunities for tastings. If you're looking for a mountain escape, the "Train of the Stars" (Train des Etoiles) will take you up to Les Pléiades, a viewpoint with magnificent vistas of the entire region.

Finally, no visit is complete without a cruise on Lake Geneva. You can hop aboard one of the elegant paddlewheel steamers to ferry between towns and take in the stunning Alpine scenery from the water.
