Hostels in Geneva

With its high number of visitors, Geneva has a great selection of hostels, and two of the most popular offer very different experiences. Choosing between them depends entirely on the type of stay you're looking for.

Geneva Hostel: For the Social Traveler

If you're traveling solo and want to meet people, Geneva Hostel is an excellent choice. It's a large, spacious place with a lively and social atmosphere that makes it easy to make friends. The staff is known for being great and friendly, and a key perk is that a simple breakfast is included in your stay. Just like many places in Geneva, they also provide a complimentary transportation card for you to use during your stay.

However, its large size and social energy come with a few trade-offs. It can get loud, with people often shouting and doors slamming. A few things to be aware of are that towels are not provided, and the bed sheets may appear a bit worn. The hostel also has a second building without an elevator, and the Wi-Fi can be unreliable in the rooms.

City Hostel Geneva: For a Cozier Vibe

The City Hostel Geneva offers a more intimate and cozy experience. It's smaller than the Geneva Hostel, making it feel more homey and also great for meeting fellow travelers. The hostel is very well-equipped, with a clean kitchen on the first floor and a nice, friendly terrace. It also has several relaxing common rooms and a laundry facility, which is a huge plus for longer stays. The staff is welcoming, and the hostel is full of brochures to help you plan your day.

The rooms themselves are well-designed with sinks and mirrors, and each bed has its own locker. The bed sheets and towels are all provided and are notably clean. The hostel also has signs everywhere encouraging guests to be quiet and respectful. Like its counterpart, it provides a free transportation card. A few things to note are that breakfast is not included and costs 6 CHF for a simple meal, and the elevator is a bit cramped. The rooms and restrooms are also mixed, which is a detail to consider.

Ultimately, both hostels are great options. If you prioritize a lively, social atmosphere and a free breakfast, the Geneva Hostel is for you. If you prefer a cleaner, quieter, and more comfortable environment with excellent facilities, the City Hostel Geneva is a better fit.
